Exhibition “Catarsini’s Twentieth Century. From the stain to the machine.”
From Nov. 15, 2025 to Feb. 15, 2026, the Mo.C.A. in Montecatini Terme will host the exhibition Catarsini’s The Twentieth Century. From the Spot to the Machine, curated by the Alfredo Catarsini 1899 ETS Foundation and promoted and realized in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Montecatini Terme.
Alfredo Catarsini’s life has almost crossed a century, the last century. Times not easy, of wars and little, but also of rebirth and great changes.
Sometimes exhilarating transformations that truly changed the way of life for his generation and future generations. Unfortunately, not always for the better.
A review, this one, that will surely fascinate painting enthusiasts and will be able to offer everyone food for thought, the same ones that Catarsini gave us through almost 70 years of art.
With such an exhibition, conceived as an itinerant one, the name of Montecatini Terme joins that of the Vittoriale degli Italiani where the exhibition has, so to speak, inaugurated its path to then move to Tuscany where Florence, Viareggio and Pisa have welcomed Catarsini’s works in prestigious contexts such as Palazzo Sacrati Strozzi, seat of the Regional Council of Tuscany, Villa Museo Paolina Bonaparte and the Fortilizio della Cittadella.
The exhibition will be inaugurated on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Civic Gallery on Viale Giuseppe Verdi 46, in the presence of Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Culture Beatrice Chelli, Alfredo Catarsini 1899 Foundation President Elena Martinelli and art historian Rodolfo Bona.
The entire exhibition of Catarsini’s The Twentieth Century. From the Spot to the Machine is part of the multi-year project “Accessible Art for All,” which, promoted by the Alfredo Catarsini 1899 ETS Foundation, aims to make art and cultural and tourist venues accessible to anyone. In fact, the exhibition is designed to be visited even by people with visual impairments, who can explore it independently and at their own pace.

Mo.C.A. Civic Gallery is pleased to invite you to the opening of the temporary exhibition Catarsini’s Twentieth Century. From stain to machine , which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025 at 11 a.m.
The exhibition is dedicated to the Viareggio painter Alfredo Catarsini, a curious and experimental artist who traversed the entire 20th century,
moving from stain painting to his original Mechanical Symbolism, in which art and modernity merge into a unique and visionary language.
The exhibition will be open from Nov. 15, 2025 to Feb. 15, 2026.
